Praise for "The Imperfect Board Member"
"Finally! A book about boards that isn't boring!"
--Patrick Lencioni, author, "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team"
"Everyone wins with good governance--countries, corporations,
and community groups. In a compelling style like no one before him,
Jim Brown helps leaders understand the keys for boardroom
excellence. "The Imperfect Board Member" ought to be required
reading for people on every type of board. The great thing is that
it won't need to be required--it's such a fun book, every leader
will want to read it."
--Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-CEO, Research in Motion; chair,
Centre for International Governance Innovation
"I know no board members, myself included, who won't learn
valuable lessons from Jim Brown's book The Imperfect Board Member.
Don't miss it!"
--Ken Blanchard, coauthor, "The One-Minute Manager(R) and The
Secret"
"Thanks to Sarbanes-Oxley, boards have become active. "The
Imperfect Board Member" clarifies sharply the lines of what boards
need to do and what management needs to do. The time has come for
the two groups to work together and yet keep independent."
--Ram Charan, coauthor, Execution, and author, "Boards That
Deliver"
""The Imperfect Board Member" by Jim Brown is a highly
perceptive, eminently readable, engagingly human book on how boards
and directors can improve their performance. In a breezy
conversational style that uses dialogue invitingly and often, the
author explores with sensitivity and a light touch not only the
standard ingredients but also the more subtle nuances of excellence
in both corporate and not-for-profit governance."
--William A. Dimma, author, "Tougher Boardsfor Tougher Times";
chairman, Home Capital Group Inc.

This is a comprehensive historical survey of Southampton's
development, containing over 300 illustrations alongside detailed
historical background. "Southampton's Changing Faces" shows how
building developments, some dramatic, have transformed areas of the
city over the years. Local historian Jim Brown has had access to
local collections containing a number of unpublished views and his
modern photos, taken from- as nearly as possible-the same position
as the older pictures, sometimes revealing startling changes.
Southampton suffered widespread damage during World War Two, when
Hitler's Blitzkrieg was unleashed on the town's docks and
infrastructure, and the subsequent post-war reconstruction altered
many areas beyond recognition. Further changes came in the 1950s
when a new ring road was constructed around the city centre to cope
with ever-increasing traffic demands, with the resultant demolition
of many properties. More changes occurred in the 1970s when the
massive Itchen Bridge was built to provide an improved connection
east of the city, and this involved the sweeping away of a number
of buildings to provide the two approaches to the new bridge. The
Bitterne area of the town was also transformed in the 1980s when a
new bypass tore through the former Bitterne Village. Fortunately
some individuals had the foresight to take photos before properties
were demolished, and these have provided Jim Brown with invaluable
material. The book contains over 300 illustrations and is sure to
appeal to all those who remember how Southampton has changed over
the years, as well as giving younger readers a fascinating insight
into the city's past.
“Rahaman has, at last, written the definitive biography on his
late brother, which tells the real Ali story.” —Mike Tyson More
words have been written about Muhammad Ali than almost anyone else.
He was, without doubt, the world’s most-loved sportsman. At the
height of his celebrity he was the most famous person in the world.
And yet, until now, the one voice missing belonged to the man who
knew him best—his only sibling, and best friend, Rahaman Ali. No
one was closer to Ali than Rahaman. Born Cassius and Rudolph Arnett
Clay, the two brothers grew up together, lived together, trained
together, travelled together, and fought together in the street and
in the ring. A near-constant fixture in his sibling’s company,
Rahaman saw Ali at both his best and his worst: the relentless
prankster and the jealous older brother, the outspoken advocate,
the husband and father. In My Brother, Muhammad Ali, Rahaman offers
an insider's perspective on the well-known stories as well as
never-before-told tales, painting a rich and intimate portrait of a
proud, relentlessly polarizing, yet often vulnerable man. In this
extraordinary, poignant memoir, Rahaman tells a much bigger and
more personal story than in any other book on Muhammad Ali—that
of two brothers, almost inseparable from birth to death. It is the
final and most important perspective on an iconic figure.
MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) undertook extensive excavations
during the construction of two separate, but adjacent road schemes,
some 4.5km apart near Houghton Regis and Toddington, in south
Central Bedfordshire. Taken as a whole, the excavations provide a
detailed multi-period dataset for regional and national comparison.
The first evidence for occupation occurred in the middle/late
Bronze Age comprising pits and clusters of postholes, including
four-post and six-post structures. Two pit alignments, more than
2km apart, also indicate that land divisions were being
established, and in the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age a
significant new settlement emerged in the valley bottom. Parts of a
further contemporary earlier-middle Iron Age settlement lay at the
top of the valley but neither settlement extended into the Roman
period. In the late Iron Age or early Roman period three or four
new settlements emerged with occupation continuing into the late
Roman period in at least one of these. Of particular interest was
the recovery of two significant Aylesford-Swarling type cemeteries
as well as a third cemetery which largely comprised unurned
burials, including some busta, but with few accompanying grave
goods. In the late 7th-century a small probable Christian
conversion open-ground inhumation cemetery was established with
burials accompanied by a range of objects, including a rare work
box, knives, brooches, chatelaine keys and a spearhead. Parts of
three medieval settlements were uncovered including one with a
potters' working area.
Keenen Ivory Wayans writes, directs and stars in this comedy spoof.
Ex-soldier Jack Spade (Wayans) returns home to his old
neighbourhood after his brother Junebug dies from an overdose of
gold chains. When he finds that the crime lord Mr. Big (John
Vernon) is the man behind it all, the wannabe hero vows to avenge
his brother's death and joins forces with ghetto heroes John Slade
(Bernie Casey), Hammer (Isaac Hayes) and Slammer (Jim Brown) to
bring justice where justice is needed most.

The novel is based on truth and tells the story of a young man
accused of a crime that he did not commit. It tells of bitter
months of hatred towards his accuser, the judge and prison
officials. He had nothing but hatred towards the system and was
totally unhappy. It wasn't until he was able to forgive his
accuser, his public defender and the judge that sentenced him to
twenty years in prison that his life began to change. In time he
became a model prisoner and was able to face his situation without
hatred controlling him. His desire to clear his name and become a
person of respectability generated thought of freedom and escape
from prison. He dreamed of finding the guilty party and having the
court reverse his conviction. His intentions were good, but the
action he took branded him a "Prisoner on the run."
This collection of poems from Jim Brown's life-long engagement with
language is full of surprises and vivid moments. Some of the poems
move downward and inward along faint trails--seen or
imagined--toward "moon-abetted mystery." Some are tough-minded
reality checks. Others are romps amid playful language. Throughout,
he reminds us that keen attention and exact language are the best
snares humans have for inspiration and insight. (Charles Goodrich,
writer/poet, gardener, author of Insects of South Corvallis, The
Practice of Home, and Going to Seed: Dispatches from the Garden.)
The 3rd Platoon was written by an Infantry Platoon Leader who was
among the first American soldiers to see combat during the Korean
conflict. War was never declared and the action taken was by United
Nation Forces. The hostilities were considered to be only a police
action in a effort to stop the spread of Communism. This conflict
may not have been an all out war but it is declared as one of the
bloodiest conflicts of modern times. Soldiers of several nations
were involved fighting under the authority of the United Nations.
Most weapons of modern times were employed and millions of people
were killed, wounded or missing. Other millions of people were
displaced. United Nation Forces consisted primarily of soldiers
from South Korea, England, Canada, Australia, Turkey and the United
States. There were scattered support from other nations but the
United states furnished a majority of the troops and cost of this
conflict. Enemy forces consisted of; North Korea, China and a
sprinkling of Russian airmen
